SAT写作满分的五步方法

  分析过大量同学们考题作文扣分点后,佳佳老师发现很多同学SAT写作最大的问题往往并不是找不到分析要素(evidence,reasoning, stylistic& persuasive elements),而是不知道如何结合文章分析,只是一味堆叠背过的分析模板。

  那今天我们来看一下如何分析段能每一句环环相扣,最后整段看起来有理有据,充实又紧紧贴合原文,老师先和大家隆重介绍一下写作五步法:

  分析段结构:

  1 点明手法—位置 (paragraph XX)+手法名称+分论点;

  2 引用证据+分论点

  3 读者感受

  4 作者目的

  5 上下文中作用 !

  我们试想一下,如果每个分析手法都能找到这5个不同的点,首先我们就做到了从多个角度分析,那我们的分析一定不会显得单薄;再者,如果每一段,每一个点都可以写到2-3句(30 words or so),那么绝对可以保证每个分析段150-180words,那么整篇550words就达到了一篇高分作文的要求。听完后是不是很心动,那么我们话不多说,直接来练习一个段落:

  由于18年涉及到教育类的话题较多,我们今天来看OG中一篇Digital Parent Trap,这篇文章通过阅读prompt 2可以知道,文章主题就是劝服家长们不要一味反对孩子们使用电子产品。那我们就先来阅读一下 P.1-P.3部分,思考一下这里作者运用了什么写作手法:

  读完后大家发现手法容易定位——

  1 By all measures, this generation of American kids (ages 3 to 18) is the tech-savviest in history: 27% of them use tablets, 43% use smartphones, and 52% use laptops. And in just a few weeks they will start the most tech-saturated school year ever: Los Angeles County alone will spend $30 million on classroom iPads this year, outfitting 640,000 kids by late 2014.

  第一段 Evidence——statistics,说明电子产品的使用已经完全渗透在学生的生活中,这种趋势已经不可阻挡。

  Yet, according to the latest findings from the research firm Grunwald Associates, barely half of U.S. parents agree that mobile technology should play a more prominent role in schools. Some are even paying as much as $24,000 to send their kids to monthlong “digital detox” programs like the one at Capio Nightingale Hospital in the U.K. . . .

  第二段evidence—— example,举例说明家长愿意花大价钱来帮孩子“戒网毒”,可见对于电子产品的成见之深。

  So who’s right — the mom trying to protect her kids from the perils of new technology or the dad who’s coaching his kids to embrace it? It’s an urgent question at a time when more than 80% of U.S. school districts say they are on the cusp of incorporating Web-enabled tablets into everyday curriculums.

  第三段rhetorical question,直接向我们发问面对电子产品到底应该怎样做,以此引出后面的讨论。

  第一段到第三段其实还隐藏着另一个手法dichotomy/contrast,强烈对比让我们感受到科技渗透和家长抵触情绪之间的矛盾。

  那么现在佳佳老师带着大家用五步法分析一下dichotomy/contrast

  1 点明手法

  ——位置 (paragraph XX)+手法+分论点

  【位置】In the beginning,【手法】 Dockterman presents the readers a dichotomy【分论点】 between a tech-filled era and parents’ apparent aversion to technology by employing sound statistics, examples, and rhetorical questions.

  由于是对比结构,所以我们第二步要拆分成两部分写;

  对比中A面—引用证据1+分论点1

  对比中B面—引用证据2+分论点2

  2 证据引用1+分论点1

  In 1st paragraph, 【证据】 a series of numbers- 27% bringing tablets, 43% using smartphones, and 52% possessing notebooks among American kids aging from 3 to 18-【分论点】prove that the youth of today are truly “tech-savviest” throughout history. What’s more, the example, predicts a relentless trend for technology penetrating into education system.

  3 证据引用2+ 分论点2

  On the hand, 【证据】 the other opposite example- digital detox program is inserted ,by which author clearly presents that parents are extremely willing to pay such a fortune,“24000 dollars”,to avert digital addiction for their children. Through this vivid example, the author depicts a group of determined parents against technology ,indicating how serious this conflict become.

  4 读者感受+作者目的+上下文中作用

  【读者感受】 Eventually, the author throws this question in front of us “who’s right?”- a mom versus dad question, impelling readers to ponder what advantages and disadvantages behind each claim and which side they should stand with.

  5 作者目的+上下文中作用

  【作者目的】Through irrefutable data and detailed example, the author creates a warmly-debated scene, which undoubtedly provokes readers’ interests to participate into this discussion and 【上下文中作用】arouse their curiosity to see the ending of this passage in the opening.

  希望这在写作练习中不断强化自己的五部法,这样考场上就不会出现无话可说的情况了。
