主题:Some scientists believe that bacteria, Earth's most primitive organisms, evolved first on other planets and later traveled to Earth within meteorites (small rocks) that broke away from those planets. However, many experts are skeptical of this theory, since the journey from other planets would be extremely difficult for bacteria to survive.

1. The only way for bacteria to leave their planet of origin would be on pieces of rock thrown upward from the planet's surface. This could have happened only if the original planet collided with a large space object such as an asteroid: the collision would throw rocks containing bacteria upward from the planet's surface with such great force that they would travel all the way to outer space. However, an asteroid collision would also release incredible amounts of heat, destroying any bacteria near the collision site. Rocks close to the collision site would be heated so much that bacteria inside them could not survive.

1.冲击波下的幸存者:在行星间的碰撞中,部分细菌可能因远离撞击中心而幸存,被冲击波抛入太空,且生命迹象未息。

2. Second, it is very difficult to imagine how bacteria could survive a long journey through space: it would take millions of years for a rock originating on another planet to reach Earth. In outer space, there are no nutrients to sustain life and constant radiation from the Sun can kill biological cells in minutes. lt is very unlikely that bacteria could survive the journey.

2.太空中的坚韧生存者:细菌具有在极端条件下保护自己的能力,这使得它们在太空旅行中存活下来的可能性大大增加。

3. Finally, bacteria carried by meteorites would then have to survive the entry into Earth's atmosphere and the collision with Earth's surface. Any rocks entering Earth's atmosphere are heated by air friction to very high temperatures, and when they hit Earth's surface, they are subjected to intense pressure. The high temperature and pressure of impact would probably destroy any bacteria that the rocks might carry.

3.科学实验的证据:科学家的实验表明,在某些恶劣环境下,并非所有细菌都会被杀死,这为细菌的星际旅行提供了可能性。

  学术讨论

Your professor is teaching a class on business. Write a post responding to the professor’s question.

  In your response, you should

  · express and support your personal opinion

  · make a contribution to the discussion in your own words

An effective response will contain at least 100 words. You have ten minutes to write.

Doctor Diaz:This week, we are going to discuss companies' policies for promotion. Companies tend to value different things and set different criteria for determining who deserves a promotion. Criteria for promotion may include employees’ performance and achievements in their current roles, seniority within the company, years of experience in the field, or even leadership potential. In today's post, I would like you to discuss which criteria for promotion you see as the most important and explain why.

Kelly:I believe seniority should be the most important criterion for promotion. Rewarding employees who have been with the company for a long time shows that the company values loyalty and dedication. Long-term employees often have a deep understanding of the company's culture and processes, which can be invaluable.

Andrew: I think job performance should be the top criterion for promotions. Rewarding employees for their skills and achievements pushes them to excel in their roles. When people see that their hard work and dedication are recognized, they're motivated to take the next step in their careers.

  范文:

I contend that employees' performance is the most important criteria for promotion because it directly reflects their ability to contribute to the success of the organization. Numerous studies have shown that high-performing employees are more likely to drive innovation, increase productivity, and positively impact the bottom line of a company. For example, a study conducted by the Harvard Business Review found that companies with a strong focus on promoting based on performance saw a 21% increase in profitability compared to those that did not prioritize performance. This clearly demonstrates the correlation between employee performance and overall business success. In contrast, promoting employees based on factors other than performance, such as seniority or favoritism, can have negative consequences. It can lead to resentment among high-performing employees who feel their efforts are not being valued, as well as a lack of motivation among the rest of the workforce. This can ultimately result in decreased productivity, morale, and overall performance. In conclusion, promoting employees based on performance is not only fair and transparent, but it also has a direct impact on the success of the organization.
