TASK 1

Some people prefer to read paper books, others like to read e-books on computers or other devices. Which do you think is better and why?【

  Sample Answer

  I prefer to read e-books.

First of all, e-books are lightweight and portable. They can even fit inside my pocket. That means I can read e-books anywhere I like, such as on the subway or on the plane. Instead, if I read paper books, I will have to carry them around, which is a big hassle.

Besides, e-books are easy to operate and offers features such as highlighting of text and note-taking. In comparison, we have to use pens and markers to write notes on the page and underline or highlight important sections of the book. So, the old-fashioned way of reading books is not that convenient. I’m more comfortable with e-books.

Should government give financial support to build museums and theaters? State your opinion and explain why. 【

  Sample Answer

I believe the government should support building museums and theaters.

First of all, museums make learning more interactive and memorable. For example, when I was a kid, I visited a natural history museum during field trip. I saw a life-sized dinosaur skeleton and even touched a real fossil. That experience made me much more interested in science than just reading about it in a textbook.

Second, theaters help preserve cultural traditions. Many small theaters struggle financially. And without government support, they might need to raise admission fees for their performances. If ticket prices are too high, fewer people will attend, and these cultural performances may earn less money and finally disappear.

When traveling, some people like to keep a record of their experiences—for example, by keeping a journal or by taking pictures. Other people prefer not to keep such records when traveling.

Which do you prefer and why? 【

  Sample Answer

Well, I personally prefer to keep a record of my experience when traveling. The first reason is that keeping a journal or taking pictures during the trip can provide me opportunities to post those stuff on social media. Therefore, I can get some comments and likes from my friends and families. By posting pictures on social media like Instagram, Facebook, or WeChat, I can share those traveling experiences with people to make the journey more fun and meaningful.

The second reason is that keeping a record of traveling experiences is worth of commemoration. If not, these experiences will be forgotten one day. But the journal and pictures can bring me back to those precious moments.

Some students feel they learn more in classes that meet early in the morning. Other students think they learn more in afternoon classes. Which one do you prefer?

  Sample Answer

  I prefer afternoon classes.

First of all, I feel more awake and focused later in the day. In the morning, I often feel tired and sluggish, which makes it harder to concentrate. For example, I once had an 8 a.m. math class, and even though I liked the subject, I struggled to stay engaged because I wasn’t fully awake. In contrast, when I took an afternoon history class, I was much more alert and participated actively.

Second, having classes in the afternoon allows me to use my mornings productively. I can review materials, complete assignments, or even exercise, which helps me feel more prepared and energized for class.

Nowadays, many people communicate through text messages, do you think we should reply to friends messages right away or reply to them later?

  Sample Answer

I think it’s always better to reply right away.

First of all, responding quickly makes conversations more natural and engaging. For example, when I text my friends about making weekend plans, an immediate reply helps us decide faster and avoids confusion. If I delay my response, they might make other plans, and I could miss out.

Second, replying promptly shows that I value my friends and strengthens relationships. If someone takes time to message me, answering quickly makes them feel appreciated. One time, a friend texted me for advice, and because I replied right away, I was able to help him solve his problem quickly.
