   主题:古埃及王国崩溃原因的探讨

  1. 地方长官的叛乱(the revolt of the governors)导致了王国的崩溃。地方长官可能对中央政权不满,从而发动叛乱,使得国家秩序混乱,最终引发王国的覆灭。

  

  1. 有大量的奖励(substantial rewards)给予忠诚的地方长官,所以即便地方长官叛乱,他们也不会获得太多利益。而且中央有军队(central army)能够镇压试图叛乱的地方长官。

  

  2. 降雨变化及其对埃及粮食供应可能产生的影响(changes in rainfall and their probable effect on Egypt's food supply)这一理论。推测降雨的减少可能导致粮食歉收,进而引发饥荒,社会动荡不安,导致王国崩溃。

  

  2. 相关文件来自埃及东部地区(region is east to Egypt),该地区与古埃及有着不同的天气系统(different weather systems)。所以即使该地区可能遭遇干旱(drought),但古埃及本土仍可能有大量降雨,即降雨变化不一定影响到古埃及的粮食供应。

  Doctor Achebe: This week, we will be discussing space exploration. Some people think that it is a waste of money for governments to fund space exploration. Others disagree with this view, arguing that space exploration is a valuable and necessary investment for our future. They think that it is worthy for governments to fund space exploration. l want to know what you think about this topic, Do you think that governments should fund space exploration? Why or why not?

  Kelly: I don't think that governments should fund space exploration because it will be too costly to build spaceships and develop related technologies. Though space exploration tech costs billions, it doesn't offer direct benefits to most people, which makes its funding a controversial issue

  Paul: Personally, l do think that all the costs will be worth it. The potential scientific discoveries and technological advancements could have far-reaching impacts that justify the initial investment, imagine the new inventions that might come from this exploration. Such technology could greatly improve our everyday lives.

  I contend that governments should unequivocally fund space exploration, as it serves as a catalyst for technological innovation. Space missions have historically driven breakthroughs with terrestrial applications. For example, satellite technology, initially developed for space research, now underpins GPS navigation, weather forecasting, and global communication systems—technologies indispensable to modern life. Additionally, innovations like MRI machines and water purification systems trace their origins to NASA’s research, demonstrating how space exploration addresses critical human needs. Skeptics may argue that private companies like SpaceX can lead space exploration. However, private entities often prioritize profit over pure scientific inquiry. Government-funded programs, such as the European Space Agency’s climate monitoring initiatives or India’s cost-effective Mars Orbiter Mission, focus on collective benefits rather than commercial gains. While balancing budgets for social welfare is vital, defunding space exploration would stifle progress in science, sustainability, and global collaboration. By investing in space, governments secure humanity’s capacity to thrive both on Earth and in future interplanetary endeavors.

However, some educators believe that schools should assign work during these breaks to help students stay engaged with their studies and retain knowledge. what do you think? Should schools assign homework during long school breaks?

  Kelly: I think schools should assign some homework during long breaks, but it should be work that interests students and isn't boring. This way, students can stay engaged and reinforce what they've learned without feeling overwhelmed. This keeps learning fun while still helping them retain important knowledge during the break.

  Paul: I don't think schools should assign homework during long breaks because if students run into problems, they won't have access to teachers for help. lf a student is struggling with a math problem and has no one to explain it, they might waste a lot of time without learning

  anything.

   主题:金星上的灰光形成的原因

  1. 太阳紫外线(ultraviolet rays of the sun)与金星大气层(the atmosphere of Venus)发生反应(reaction),当一个氧原子(oxygen atom)分解形成两个氧原子时会产生这种灰光(Ashen Light)。这是基于化学反应(chemical reaction)的原理,推测在金星的特殊环境下,这种原子层面的变化能够释放出光线,从而形成人们观测到的灰光现象。

  

  1. 这种化学反应(chemical reaction)在理论上观测到的光应该是黄色(yellow)或金色(golden),而不是实际观测到的绿色(green),从颜色的差异上说明这种化学反应并非是灰光形成的真正原因。
