新SAT文法分号的使用

　　在中文里面，和逗号和句号的使用频率来比，分号的使用频率较低，但是在SAT文法考试中，分号作为一个重要的考点经常出现，那么就让我们走进分号的用法。

　　分号考点一：分隔两个独立完整句

　　考点介绍：如果想把两个独立完整的句子连接起来，又不加并列连词的话，可以使用分号连接，以产生平衡的并列或对比效果，且第二个独立完整句的第一个单词首字母应该小写，除了专有名词。(该用法可以和两个独立完整句之间用逗号加并列连词等同)。

　　难点：在分析这个考点时，同学们需要去判断句子是不是独立完整句，就要学会区分动词和非谓语动词，主句和从句。

　　区分动词与非谓语动词的形式：判断一个句子是否完整最重要的一个标志是看有没有动词，在这里一定要注意区分动词和非谓语动词：动词的形式多为am/is/are/was/were, do, did, does, will do, have/has/had done等，情态动词can/could/should/may/might/must/need等;非谓语动词形式 to do, doing, done)。

　　区分主从句，需要牢记从句的引导词：定语从句---that/who/which/whose/when/where/why,状语从句---when/since/before/after/because/wherever/as if/if/unless/although/even though等)。

　　结构：SVO; sVO.=SVO, and SVO.

　　例句：

　　§ The student became somewhat confused; he could not understand the meaning of these sentences.

　　§ Some arrive with letters proclaiming the writer’s genius; others come with apologies for taking up our time.

　　例题：

　　Some offerings are scrawled in pencil; others, are expertly typed. Some arrive with letters proclaiming the writer’s genius; others come with apologies for taking up our time.

　　§ A. NO CHANGE

　　正确选项：C

　　分析：在这道题目中，分号连接两个完整独立句，前一句话动词为are scrawled, 后一句话动词为come。A选项others后不需要加逗号(主谓之间不需要使用逗号，如果有插入成分，必须是两个逗号分隔);B选项两个句子之间没有标点，为fused sentence，构成SVOSVO的错误句;D选项逻辑关系和标点均使用错误。

　　分号考点二：分隔两个由连接副词连接的独立完整句

　　考点介绍：在这个用法中，分号用于分隔两个由过渡词(连接副词)连接的独立完整句，连接副词首字母小写即可。(该用法可以等同于SVO. 连接副词, SVO. 不同之处在于句号分隔两个由连接副词连接的独立完整句，连接副词首字母应该大写)。

　　难点：在分析这个知识点时，同学们先要去区分连接副词和连词。连接副词实际上词性是副词，它没有连接句子的能力，所以需要用上分号：

　　§ 1. 表递进或先后顺序的副词：如 furthermore, then, finally…

　　§ 2. 表结果的副词：如 consequently, therefore, accordingly, as a result…

　　§ 3. 表转折类的副词：如 however(高频考点), nevertheless, in fact...

　　结构：SVO; however, SVO. =SVO. However, SVO.

　　例句：

　　§ The tomato is one of the most popular salad ingredients; however, it is actually a fruit. = The tomato is one of the most popular salad ingredients. However, it is actually a fruit.=The tomato is one of the most popular salad ingredients, but it is actually a fruit.

　　例题：

　　The 1974 film adaptation was recognized for following Fitzgerald’s novel to the letter, however, the movie was also criticized for being lifeless and dull.

　　A) NO CHANGE

　　D) letter, however:

　　正确选项：C

　　分析：在这个题目中，however之前是一个完整的句子，动词为was recognized, however之后也是一个完整的句子，动词为was criticized，所以应该使用SVO;however, SVO. 或SVO. However, SVO.的形式，基于此，我们可以选择C选项。

　　当然，如果连接副词在句中不是充当连接两个独立完整句的作用，而只是充当插入语，则连接副词前后都使用逗号。

　　结构：S, however, VO. (以however为例)
