新SAT文法分号的使用

　　分号考点三：逗号变形为分号

　　考点介绍：若两个并列句子本身已经有多个逗号，那么用分号+并列连词去分隔前后两个句子，如以下例句：

　　§ The warranty on the car covered extensive repairs to the electrical system, front end, transmission, fuel injection, and valves; but the amount of time and inconvenience involved in returning each time to the dealer cannot be ignored.

　　例题：

　　The Ambassadors: A Meditation on Morality

　　But as the viewer begins to examine Holbein’s painting more closely, several surprising details fall into sharp relief: the string on the prominently displayed lute is broken; the faces of the sundial appear not to match; and the globe is tipped upside-down, though several regions are labeled right-side up.

　　A) NO CHANGE

　　B) broken; the faces of the sundial appear not to match; and the globe is tipped upside-down; though

　　分析: 这个题目实际考察还是逗号三大考点的连接并列成分，只是出现一种特例情况：成分内部本身有用到逗号的结构存在，所以分隔平行成分之间的逗号就要变形成为分号使用，以免造成句子的歧义。因此上面这道题目，由于the globe…, though...部分内部用到逗号，所以其他平行成分之间只能使用分号连接。

　　同样，一个句子里面包含多个内容单元并列，而这些单元中又包含逗号，那么这些单元之间用分号隔开

　　分析：在这道题目中，由于probability, statistics, and research methods部分内部用到逗号，所以其他平行成分之间(a quantitative discipline, a method, and a tool )只能将逗号改分号来连接，避免句子并列成分划分的不清晰。
