They think that it is worthy for governments to fund space exploration. l want to know what you think about this topic, Do you think that governments should fund space exploration? Why or why not?

　　Kelly: I don't think that governments should fund space exploration because it will be too costly to build spaceships and develop related technologies. Though space exploration tech costs billions, it doesn't offer direct benefits to most people, which makes its funding a controversial issue

　　Paul: Personally, l do think that all the costs will be worth it. The potential scientific discoveries and technological advancements could have far-reaching impacts that justify the initial investment, imagine the new inventions that might come from this exploration. Such technology could greatly improve our everyday lives.

　　I contend that governments should unequivocally fund space exploration, as it serves as a catalyst for technological innovation. Space missions have historically driven breakthroughs with terrestrial applications. For example, satellite technology, initially developed for space research, now underpins GPS navigation, weather forecasting, and global communication systems—technologies indispensable to modern life. Additionally, innovations like MRI machines and water purification systems trace their origins to NASA’s research, demonstrating how space exploration addresses critical human needs. Skeptics may argue that private companies like SpaceX can lead space exploration. However, private entities often prioritize profit over pure scientific inquiry. Government-funded programs, such as the European Space Agency’s climate monitoring initiatives or India’s cost-effective Mars Orbiter Mission, focus on collective benefits rather than commercial gains. While balancing budgets for social welfare is vital, defunding space exploration would stifle progress in science, sustainability, and global collaboration. By investing in space, governments secure humanity’s capacity to thrive both on Earth and in future interplanetary endeavors.

　　1. there is the question of whether locations proposed for storing CO2 have enough space.

　　1. Well, carbon dioxide doesn't gas under normal conditions. Gases definitely take lots of space. But if the SO 2is exposed to high pressures and the high temperatures before being stored underground, it will transform from a gas into a super critical fluid. Super critical foods are more compressed and therefore occupy less space than gases. If we process SO 2 at high pressures and temperatures and then store it as a super critical fluid, it will take up less space. Which decreases the need for so much storage space.

　　2. if CO2 escapes from underground storage sites, it can pose risks to human health.

　　2. we can minimize the health risks in SO 2 weeks based on research that has been done on them. Carbon dioxide leaking from the underground storage units usually stays close to the ground. This means that people would only get sick if they breathe the air close to the ground. For example is they were sleeping on the ground while camping. So we can take appropriate safety measures. We can install monitoring devices in areas where SO 2 is stored. When the monitoring devices detect SO 2 they will sound a warning to alert people to leave the area quickly and not breathe the air close to the ground.

　　3. a wide range of costs are associated with the process of storing CO2 underground.

　　3. some of the costs can actually be offset by financial benefits. For example, some of the sites suitable for SO 2 storage are deep underground layers of rock that contain another gas called methane. When carbon that is injected into those rocks, the rocks release the methane gas. Methane is commercially valuable as fuel, and so the methane released at the storage sites can be collected and sold. Profits from selling methane can at least partly make up for the high costs of carbon dioxide storage.

Please discuss the following question: ls it better for new businesses to hire experienced veterans of the industry or to staff the business with younger employees who are right out of university? Why do you think so?

　　Kelly: I think a company should staff a business with the most experienced employees possible. If you're starting a new business, you need people around you who know what they are doing and can quickly get the business up to speed. Spending time training inexperienced people will slow you down.

　　Paul: I understand what Claire is saying, but if you are starting a new business, you want people who are particularly enthusiastic and energetic. Who better than a recent graduate to bring those qualities to the job? You would be guaranteed an ambitious hard worker.

　　主题：金星上的灰光形成的原因

　　1. 太阳紫外线(ultraviolet rays of the sun)与金星大气层(the atmosphere of Venus)发生反应(reaction)，当一个氧原子(oxygen atom)分解形成两个氧原子时会产生这种灰光(Ashen Light)。这是基于化学反应(chemical reaction)的原理，推测在金星的特殊环境下，这种原子层面的变化能够释放出光线，从而形成人们观测到的灰光现象。
