　主题：喝牛奶的好坏

　　喝牛奶对人身体不一定好。

　　虽然牛奶中含有钙，可以增强人的骨骼强度(density of skeleton)。但有统计数据表明，不常喝牛奶的人并没有比经常喝牛奶人的骨折概率高。过量饮用(每天超过 200grams)，人体骨骼会变得更加脆弱。

　　总论点:阅读中提到的牛奶对人身体的坏处并不可信。

　　鲜牛奶中有一种物质半乳糖(D-galactose)是导致骨骼问题的原因，容易导致人类骨折。但这种物质在发酵奶中是不存在的，所以常喝发酵(fermented)奶，如酸奶，可以避免骨折。

　　牛奶中含有的抗生素对人体不好。为了防止牛生病，会用抗生素(antibiotic)来杀死牛身上的细2菌(bacteria)。所以，人如果经常喝牛奶会对抗生素产生抵抗性(resistance)，之后生病再服用抗生素就没有效果了。

　　政府对奶制品有严格的监管，会对进入市场的牛奶进行各种检测，包括进行抗生素的检测。所以，抗生素含量超过规定标准的牛奶是不允许进入市场的。

　　牛奶中提供的营养(nutrition)并非无法取代的(irreplaceable)。人们也可以通过吃鱼、海鲜蔬菜等食品获取这些营养物质。

　　虽然，从其它食物中也可以获取牛奶中含有的营养物质，但是这种途径获取的营养物质数量很万低。人们的日常生活中，也不可能食用如此大量的鱼、海鲜等食品来获取此类营养物质。

　　Doctor Achebe:When people are choosing a career, there are many different factors to consider. What aspects of a job do people value most? Salary is a possible factor. These days, with work environments evolving, human interaction might be an important factor. If you had to choose, is it better to have a job with a high salary but little or no human interaction, or a job with a lower salary that allows for regular interaction with colleagues or customers? Why?

　　Kelly:In order for people to be truly satisfied with a job they need validation. This can only come from frequent and productive interaction with coworkers who acknowledge their hard work and contributions. l think everyone is looking for a job where they will receive positive feedback from their colleagues and recognition for their achievements.

　　Paul:I think that salary is the number one factor in determining whether a certain job is good or not. In any job interview, the first question many of us, including myself, really want answered I how much the job pays. Being a practical person, l would say the purpose of work is to earn money, not to socialize with others.

　　Doctor Achebe:This week we're looking at issues facing school administrators. For example, in some school systems, the school day starts as early as 7:30 A.M. However, not everyone believes an early start time is good for teenagers. Hormones that regulate sleep can cause adolescents to stay up late at night and require more sleep in the morning. Some administrators think the school day should start at least an hour later for teenagers. Do you agree? Why or why not?

　　Kelly:It's important that students get enough sleep, but l don't support changing school start times for teens. There's no guarantee teens would sleep more if they started later, and the schedule change could be challenging for families in which both parents leave early for work. Teens would be left on their own to get to school at the later time.

　　Paul:I was constantly tired as a teen. l would study late at night when l had plenty of energy, but then l would have to get up at 6:00 for school. l fell asleep in class more than once. Students who are tired don't pay attention. More sleep will lead to teens being more successful in school.

　　I agree that high schools should start an hour later. This is because adolescents’ biological clocks, shaped by shifting sleep-regulating hormones like melatonin, make it hard for them to fall asleep before 11 P.M. and wake up rested before 8 A.M. An early 7:30 A.M. start forces many teens to get only 6-7 hours of sleep, far less than the 8-10 hours they need, which leads to poor academic performance. For instance, a study found students with later start times scored 10% higher on math tests, as they were more alert during lessons. Additionally, later starts reduce tardiness; my cousin’s school shifted to 8:30 A.M., and his class’s late rate dropped from 25% to 5%. Thus, adjusting start times aligns with teens’ biology and boosts their success.
